State legislation regarding private employment agents, trading hours, public holidays and child employment continues to apply to all businesses and employees in Queensland. Trading hours for each category of retail shop are listed below. Different hours may apply to Sundays and public holidays. Special trading hours apply for Anzac Day , Easter , Labour Day and Christmas. Exempt shops have unrestricted trading hours. They may trade 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, days of the year , including all public holidays, and are not required to limit the number of staff they employ.

Hours of trade may be restricted by another Act or contract. From 1 December , non-exempt shops in the South East Queensland Area may open: Extended hours may apply on Sundays and public holidays in certain areas; however, Anzac Day , Easter , Labour Day and Christmas have special conditions.

The QIRC make decisions based on submissions to it from retail organisations and other interested parties. When making decisions the QIRC takes into account a wide range of criteria specified in the Trading Allowable Hours Act the Act , including:.

The QIRC has approved trading on Sundays and certain public holidays in a number of areas in Queensland. The QIRC decides trading hours and conditions for special displays and exhibitions, such as home shows, electronic shows, and expos.
